There are approximately 20 definitions of energy. For example: "Energy is a resource from which heat, light, and power can be obtained"; The Encyclopaedia Britannica states: "Energy is a term that encompasses all fuels, flowing water, sunlight, and wind, which humans can harness through appropriate conversion means to provide needed energy"; The Japanese Encyclopedia says: "In various production activities, we utilize thermal energy, mechanical energy, light energy, electrical energy, etc., to perform work; various carriers in nature that can serve as sources for these energies are called energy"; China's Energy Encyclopedia states: "Energy refers to energy-carrying resources that can directly or through conversion provide humans with any form of energy such as light, heat, or power." Thus, energy is a multi-form, convertible source of energy. Precisely and simply put, energy is a material resource in nature that can provide humans with some form of energy.
