The Development of Brakes

The downstream industries of the industrial brake sector primarily include lifting and transportation machinery, metallurgical equipment, mining machinery, construction engineering machinery, wind power and nuclear power equipment, as well as shipbuilding and offshore heavy industry equipment—industries that are poised for revitalization and growth. Benefiting from the resurgence and development of these sectors, the industrial brake industry is set to embrace another round of sustained, healthy growth opportunities. According to the "2013-2017 China Industrial Brake Industry Development Outlook Forecast and Transformation & Upgrading Analysis Report" [2], China's industrial brake industry is expected to maintain an annual growth rate of 10% to 20% over the next few years.

According to the relevant deployments outlined in China's "12th Five-Year" Development Plan for Promoting Cross-Sectoral Growth, strategic emerging industries such as high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, and new materials will continue to be key areas of vigorous development in China. Meanwhile, the nation’s regulatory measures aimed at standardizing the equipment manufacturing sector are expected to significantly boost the growth of China’s brake industry. Additionally, as the economy maintained steady growth in 2011, Qianzhan.com forecasts that China’s GDP will reach 9.5% for the year. Moreover, the automotive industry is poised for continued robust expansion in both production and sales, with total market demand across the country projected to hit 20 million vehicles by 2011. Taken together, China’s auto sales are anticipated to grow by 10%–15% in 2011, which will, in turn, drive substantial demand in the brake industry. Looking ahead, it is estimated that China’s brake industry market size will sustain an annual growth rate of 15%–25% over the next five years.

With the revitalization and growth of the equipment manufacturing industry, domestic brake manufacturers have seen a significant increase in output, while sales revenue in the brake sector has grown steadily. However, constrained by late market entry, a weak technological foundation, and limited capital investment, China’s brake products still predominantly consist of low-end offerings. Only a handful of companies in the industry remain committed to independent innovation, ramping up R&D investments and gradually shifting toward higher-tech, mid-to-high-end products. As a result, the market share of mid- and high-end brake products is steadily expanding, and these companies are enjoying rising profit margins. Meanwhile, low-end brake producers—facing fierce competition among numerous players—are experiencing declining prices due to oversupply. At the same time, fluctuations in the prices of key raw materials like steel have begun to temper their profit growth.

Introduction to Electro-Hydraulic Actuators

Electro-Hydraulic Actuators are a new type of power actuator that can replace hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders in industries such as mining, the steel industry, machinery manufacturing, lifting and transportation, tunnel excavation, marine facilities, signaling systems, the chemical industry, rock and soil engineering, and the petroleum industry. For instance, they can be used as power-driven devices in applications like mine car stoppers, safety gates, and swing platforms; in blast furnace operation cylinders during steelmaking; in lifting and transporting equipment for material handling; and even in railway switch machines.

Brake Classification

① Friction brakes: These rely on the friction force between the braking component and the moving part to achieve braking. ② Non-friction brakes: The main structural types of these brakes include magnetic powder brakes (which use the shear force generated by magnetizing magnetic powder for braking), magnetic eddy current brakes (whose braking torque can be adjusted by regulating the excitation current), and water eddy current brakes, among others.
